A beautiful and unexplored island in the Firth of Clyde. Just 15 miles long and
5 miles wide, it’s reached by a short ferry trip from Weymss Bay. Rothesay is
a charming and unspoiled Victorian resort town with good shopping and its own
castle, right in the town centre. And if you need to answer a call of nature,
make sure you use the famous magnificent restored Victorian facilities by the
pier.
If you can spare a little more time, take one of the hourly buses (restricted at weekends) to Mount Stuart – one of Scotland’s finest – if not Britain’s finest – stately homes, a few miles south of Rothesay.
Hourly services from Glasgow Central to Weymss Bay. Most trains connect with ferries to Rothesay. Train journey time: 50 minutes. Boat journey: 35 minutes. Total journey time (including connections) around 2 hours.
